Pupil Progress
-
To produce and implement schemes of work and other planning that is tailored to meet the pupils’ needs. We are looking at the subjects offered and increasing the range so that pupils who arrive at St Anne’s are able to choose subjects they are interested in and that motivate them allowing for timetables to be personalised and relevant.
-
Establish robust procedures for the ongoing assessment of pupils’ work and ensure that this is used by teachers in their planning. Formal assessment is now undertaken at the end of each term with informal assessment being made by teaching staff as an ongoing process. Teaching staff are encouraged to use the data collected on achievement to plan and deliver their lessons enabling pupils’ to develop their skills and extend their learning.
-
Equip staff with the necessary strategies to manage pupils’ behaviour and encourage pupils to act responsibly. As acknowledged by Ofsted, staff already encourage pupils to act responsibly but, behaviour management procedures are constantly under review and are aimed at rewarding positive attitudes towards both conduct and learning. Insets are held to instruct staff on behaviour management procedures and daily briefings allow staff to share good and bad experiences and practices with their peers.

The overall effectiveness of the school is satisfactory. It is held in high regard by parents. Pupils are very proud of their school, are enthusiastic learners and generally polite. Our approach to managing behaviour is constantly under review and Ofsted noted that ‘staff constantly encourage pupils to act responsibly.’ The Headteacher and her enthusiastic new team are working hard to bring about further improvement. Systems for using assessment data to monitor progress and to set targets for improvement have been developed and are now feeding into the teaching and learning of the pupils. Teaching overall is satisfactory and again, the Headteacher with the support of the teaching staff are working very hard to improve this. Ofsted say that ‘staff work hard on fostering pupils’ self-esteem, self-worth and self-knowledge’ and that this is well supported through the PSHE programme. Preparation for adult life is also provided through links with local colleges providing vocational education. We are gradually strengthening our curriculum provision and staff have been appointed with particular subject responsibilities in order to achieve this.
