Parents and the Community

Parents play an important role in the education of their children and we involve them in all aspects of school life.   Parents are telephoned every day to keep them informed of their child’s’ behaviour, work rate and attitude.  They are invited in regularly for reviews and are consulted about strategies to help their children progress both personally and academically.

The importance of community is taught through PSHE and Citizenship and pupils are encouraged to know and understand their local community.   The Safer Schools Officer is a regular visitor and we try to involve pupils in local community projects that both involve the school and the local environment.  Regular visiting speakers attend the school, such as the Army and Heart, and local community groups such as Lives not Knives to speak to the students.

The school is represented on a number of boards, such as the Turnaround Centre board, YEISP, the Croydon Community Consultative Police Group, The CVA, Children and Family Network.

The school has formed partnerships with a number of learning partners and agencies such as heart Foundation, Blind Dogs Association... that offer community local and national school interaction. The heart foundation came and gave the school first aid training and staff can now teach pupils first aid as a part of the curriculum.

Pupils are encouraged to join local community groups and participate in local life. Pupils have visited old people’s home and some go on work placement experience.

St Annes's has partnered with a number of local employers that offer work for placemens and experience.
